Pooled account
A pooled account is one bank account that holds many customers’ funds together, with the platform keeping its own ledger of whose money is whose. Pooling simplifies banking relationships but commingles funds: the bank sees one balance and one owner, and customer-level records exist only in the platform’s books.

Pooling shows up under several names — FBO accounts, omnibus accounts, virtual account structures — and the trade-off is always the same. Reconciliation between the sub-ledger and the bank balance becomes a permanent operational burden, deposit-insurance analysis depends on the quality of ownership records, and when a custodian’s records are incomplete, tracing whose money is whose is exactly where customers get hurt.
Infinite avoids the pool: every customer gets a unique, individually titled demand deposit account through chartered, FDIC-insured partner banks, with reconciliation handled by the network. Ownership lives in account records at the bank, not in a platform’s spreadsheet.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between a pooled account and an FBO account?
An FBO account is a common legal form of a pooled account — custodial titling ("for benefit of" customers) over one account holding many owners’ funds, tracked in a sub-ledger. Every FBO account is pooled; not every pool is titled FBO. FBO account
What is the difference between a pooled account and a segregated account?
A segregated account holds one customer’s funds apart from everyone else’s, in that customer’s name at the bank. A pooled account holds many customers’ funds together, with ownership tracked only on the platform’s ledger. Individually titled per-customer accounts achieve segregation at the bank itself, not just on a ledger.
What is the alternative to pooling customer funds?
Individually titled per-customer accounts. On Infinite, each customer gets a unique, fully managed DDA — real accounts at partner banks, with onboarding, screening, and reconciliation run on the network. Third-party funds flow
