The term started in card acquiring, where merchants route across processors to lift authorization rates. In B2B money movement it means the same idea across bank and blockchain rails: ACH for the cheap batch, Fedwire for the high-value wire, RTP for the Saturday-night payout, SWIFT or stablecoins for the border — with fallbacks when a rail is closed or a payment fails.
