Flow of funds · Conversion

Fiat to stablecoin and back, step by step.

Fiat-to-stablecoin conversion on Infinite (infinite.net) is native mint and burn inside the network: dollars convert to USDC, USDT, OUSD, or USDG minted directly from fiat, and stablecoins redeem back to dollars on the same ledger — no exchange accounts, no intermediary liquidity providers, and every counterparty screened before funds move.

The flow

From dollars to tokens and back again

The two balances live side by side in the same account, so conversion is a ledger event, not a trip through an exchange. The payment product behind this flow is Stablecoin Payments.

  1. Dollars sit in your Infinite Account

Fiat balances live next to stablecoin balances on one ledger, in accounts issued through Infinite’s chartered, FDIC-insured partner banks. Every movement is sub-ledgered and reconciled before anything converts.

  2. You create the transfer

Same payments API as ACH and wires: set the rail to stablecoin and pick the asset — USDC, USDT, OUSD, or USDG. No nodes to run, no exchange accounts, no token approvals — the integration guide walks through the model.

  3. Screening runs before anything moves

Every counterparty is screened before funds move — inbound and outbound. Flagged transfers stop for human review, and nothing releases while the review is open. See sanctions screening for what the checks cover.

  4. Tokens mint directly from fiat

Moving between dollars and stablecoins is native mint and burn inside the network — no intermediary liquidity providers. Custody sits inside a regulated bank perimeter: Wallet Accounts are bank-owned wallets, and the bank holds the wallet and its keys.

  5. Settlement is final in minutes

Once the transfer is confirmed on-chain — typically in seconds to minutes — settlement is final: no return window, no batch cycle, no banking-hours dependency. The rail operates 24/7/365; the stablecoin settlement guide compares it with the US rails.

  6. Redemption returns dollars

Coming back, stablecoins redeem to fiat the same way they were minted, and funds land next to your fiat balances on the same ledger with each transfer’s screening record attached. When another currency is needed, FX is quoted, executed, and settled from the same API.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Do we need to hold crypto to use stablecoin payments?

No. You fund and settle in your local currency; stablecoin conversion and routing run in the background. There are no nodes to run, no exchange accounts, no self-custody, and no token approvals — you call the same payments API used for ACH and wires. See Stablecoin Payments.

Is there an exchange or liquidity provider in the middle?

No. Moving between dollars and stablecoins is native mint and burn inside the network — USDC, USDT, OUSD, and USDG are minted and redeemed directly from fiat, with no intermediary liquidity providers. The conversion posts to the same ledger as every other movement on your account. See Stablecoin Payments.

Who holds the stablecoins after conversion?

With Wallet Accounts, custody sits inside a regulated bank perimeter — bank-owned wallets on the same network, and the same ledger, as your fiat accounts. Key management stays entirely inside the bank’s custody infrastructure; neither you, your customers, nor your dashboard users ever hold or handle keys.

How fast is settlement after conversion?

Once a transfer is confirmed on-chain — typically in seconds to minutes — settlement is final: no return window, no batch cycle, no waiting on banking hours. The rail operates 24/7/365, including weekends and holidays when ACH and Fedwire are closed. See the stablecoin settlement guide for how that compares with US rails.

Can converted funds settle back into other currencies?

Yes. Funds land next to your fiat balances and reconcile on the same ledger, with each transfer’s screening record attached. When a conversion into GBP, EUR, MXN, or BRL is needed, FX is quoted, executed, and settled from the same API — one entry, both legs, executed rate attached.

Which stablecoins does Infinite support?

USDC, USDT, OUSD, and USDG today; additional regulated stablecoins are being added. All four are sent from the same Infinite Account that holds your dollars, with every counterparty screened before funds move — see Stablecoin Payments for the supported assets and the screening behind them.
