# On-ramp and off-ramp

An on-ramp converts fiat currency into stablecoins or other digital assets; an off-ramp converts them back into fiat. Together they are the entry and exit points between the banking system and blockchain rails — where funds change form, and where compliance obligations like identity verification and sanctions screening concentrate.

Ramps are where the two systems actually meet: a bank transfer goes in and tokens come out, or tokens go in and a bank transfer comes out. Pricing, timing, and compliance all live at the ramp — a stablecoin transfer may confirm in minutes, but the payment is only as fast as its slowest conversion step.

Infinite builds the ramps into the account rather than bolting them on: fiat rails and stablecoins sit behind the same API, conversion runs in the background, and every counterparty is screened before funds move. Businesses fund and settle in local currency without operating their own on- and off-ramp relationships.

## Frequently asked questions

### Do businesses need to build their own on-ramps and off-ramps?

No. Payment infrastructure can embed the conversion so you never touch tokens directly — on Infinite, you fund and settle in your local currency while conversion and routing run in the background. ### How do businesses convert stablecoins back to fiat?

Through an off-ramp: the provider takes in stablecoins, runs compliance checks, and pays out fiat by bank transfer. On Infinite, off-ramping is built into the account — stablecoin balances settle to local currency, with accounts provided through chartered, FDIC-insured partner banks.

### Why do on-ramps require identity verification?

Converting between fiat and digital assets is a regulated activity, and the providers doing it carry AML obligations — so KYC or KYB and sanctions screening happen before the conversion, not after. [Know Your Customer (KYC)](https://infinite.net/learn/glossary/know-your-customer.md)
